Hazel Makes A Mess (On Purpose)

Hazel’s second solo show is an energetic celebration of experimentation, texture, and play. Built over the course of eight months, this body of work explores a wide range of materials—from traditional paints to paper bags, cardboard boxes, and plastic bottle caps—all layered, scraped, and arranged across canvases big and small.

The mess is part of the process. Hazel loves the freedom of working with her hands, making bold marks, and trying new techniques—even if it means things get a little chaotic along the way. The result is a joyful, curious collection that sometimes nods to shopping and mall culture, inspired by the show’s setting in a space that once belonged to a store.

This is Hazel’s first time being offered an artist residency, and she is thrilled. She thanks ILY2 Too for the opportunity and for giving her room to make a mess—on purpose.
