About Hazel
Hazel is an 11-year-old artist who works out of a walk-in closet turned art studio in her home. She’s been making art since the third grade, when she filled a notebook with drawings and poems that she still returns to for inspiration.
Hazel’s work is bold, colorful, and often emotional—she describes painting as something that brings her mind to a calm, cotton candy-like cloud. When she’s feeling big feelings, she says, “I hit the paint.”
She paints on all kinds of surfaces and loves using dense brushes and paint scrapers to create thick, layered textures. Sometimes she adds found objects or collaged bits, depending on the mood of the piece.
Hazel is inspired by her parents, who are both designers, and by the many artists she’s met at gallery shows and events over the years. When she’s not making art, Hazel can be found hanging out with friends, listening to music, or cuddling with her two dogs. She’s fun, kind, empathetic, a little quirky—and always creating.
